DAY TRIP ROUTES

Thatcham & Return  ~6 Hours with 5 Locks

Thatcham and return is a steady cruise on the Kennet & Avon however do be mindful of the river current between bridges 28 and 31.

If you are not wanting to stop anywhere for lunch, then travelling West, may be a better option for you. Heading out towards Thatcham, you will carry on the Monkey Marsh Lock no 90, which is possible in a little over 6 hours, with 10 locks (5 each way) and 6 moveable bridges.

  • K&A is wide enough to turn anywhere.

  • 5 locks (each way)

  • 1 Canal side pub (The Rowbarge)

Theale & Return  ~4-6 Hours with 4 Locks

The perfect route if you want to stop half way by lock 99 at the The Spring Inn for lunch.

The journey time to this point and back is just over 4 hours. If you would prefer not to stop for very long (no more than about an hour and a half) then you could even continue on to Sulhamstead Lock and turn after there instead.  This journey would take about 5 and a half hours in total with 8 locks and 10 bridges.
